Why Do Men Get Vasectomy Reversals?
What changes can lead a man to get a vasectomy and then go back for a vasectomy reversal? For some it is a very clear and easy decision that is made along with a new loved one, and for others it is something they think about for months or years before going through with the procedure. It is a bit different for every man, but there are five top reasons that a man may follow his vasectomy up with a reversal vasectomy:
#1: New Love
In many cases, men decide to have babies not because of their own desire, but because of their desire to make something amazing with someone else. It is very common for men who go through life swearing they will never have children to meet one special person and suddenly find themselves desperate to start a family. Starting a family suddenly doesn’t feel like such a horrible idea. In fact, it might sound like the best idea in the world if their new wife or lover is desperate to have children. If one operation could give someone they care about their dream, then it is worth it.
#2: Everything Changes with Time
Unexpected changes occur through the years. Many men have their vasectomies when they are young, only to go back on that decision when they are older. A man may want nothing more than to remain “free” his entire life, but later in life that freedom is not nearly as valuable as starting a family. These men have no option but to get a reversal vasectomy to make this happen.
#3: Death of a Child
No one wants to think about the unbearable pain that comes with losing a child, but it is common for parents to suffer through this pain and then to start craving another child. It might be the desire to hold a soft, tiny body in their arms again or the simple need to carry on the family name for the next generation, but many feel that need to have another baby through the course of recovery. Since the vasectomy was performed earlier in life without know what would come years later, a reversal vasectomy is the only way to bring a new child into the world.
#4: A Helping Spirit
In some cases, men will go through a vasectomy reversal in order to donate sperm to someone else. Since someone else desperately wants to have a child, they can give the gift of life without having their own children. This helping spirit may be worth the trip in for a reversal vasectomy if they are very close to the other person or couple experiencing infertility.
This is not the most common reasons a man may decide to go through this type of procedure, but it is not unheard of today. It takes a special man to do something this generous, but a doctor will want to verify that the man is capable of producing sperm before going through with the operation. It is pointless to do a reversal if children still cannot be produced with healthy sperm.
#5: Physical Discomfort
Most men never experience discomfort as a result of their vasectomy, but there are some men who will suddenly start experiencing pain or discomfort years after the procedure. In the rare cases that this becomes a problem a reversal vasectomy may be the only reasonable course of action. A doctor would have to evaluate the man in order to verify that this is the cause of the pain and that going through a vasectomy reversal is likely to bring a stop to the pain.
Are you thinking of going through a vasectomy reversal? Do you relate to these reasons, or do you have other reasons driving your decision?
